Fredrik Zetterström

Fredrik Zetterström is one of Scandinavia’s leading baritones of today. He studied with Prof. Birgit Stenberg and received his musical education at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. He has been engaged by all Scandinavian opera companies, as well as opera houses, throughout Europe and America. Some of his frequently performed roles are the title role in Rigoletto; Scarpia in Tosca; Jago in Otello; Amonasro in Aida; Germont in La Traviata; Wotan in Das Rheingold; Golaud in Pelléas et Mélisande; Amfortas in Parsifal; Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera; Tonio in Pajazzo; Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana; Marcello in La Bohème; and Posa in Don Carlo.
Fredrik Zetterström’s expansive vocal range has led to several appreciated and successful collaborations with contemporary composers such as Daniel Börtz, Lars Ekström, Jonas Forssell, Thomas Jennefelt, Knut Nystedt, Karin Rehnqvist, Sven-David Sandström, and Carl Unander-Scharin. In 2012 Fredrik was awarded the prestigious OPERA Magazine’s prize for his interpretation of Wozzeck at NorrlandsOperan. During the spring of 2013 he was praised for his interpretation of the title role in Aribert Reimann’s Lear at Malmö Opera.
