I am

Svanholm Singers is working diligently to expand the repertoire for male choirs and the present album contains 8 commisioned pieces of art music for lower voices. The ensemble has no less than three in-house composers, Sofia Söderberg, Henrik Dahlgren and Emil Fredberg Zander.

Emil Fredberg Zander has composed the opening track, I Know, based on a poem by Majli Januzi about the struggles of living in the contemporary World. Sofia Söderberg presents a beautiful meditation on the Swedish hymn Säg mig den vägen (‘Tell me the way that leads to life’). Henrik Dahlgren contributes with a magic piece for double choir, …There is Also Loneliness, and the 3-part suite I am, I am, I am . In addition, the album includes two pieces by Paul Mealor and Phillip Cooke as well as the piece Wiigen-Lied, composed for mixed choir by the (recently deceased) Danish composer Per Nørgård. Finally, two ‘covers’ underlining the theme of the album are included: Lonely Together by Tim ‘Avicii’ Bergling and Woods by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver).

The present album is the result of their work with the concept performance Själv (Self).
